Go on mission to your community with VBS!

Anyone can help us by donating items! Watch the bulletin or check back here often for the most current needs.

Help in advance!

  • Craft preparation: Work at home to help prepare craft materials prior to VBS week

  • Artists: Paint murals and life-sized New York scenes

  • Decorations: Draw, paint, and decorate the week before VBS

VBS Positions

Teachers: Teachers are needed to lead each age group in a 30 minute Bible Study. They are also responsible for staying with their class through the different rotation sites. Teachers are responsible for decorating their own classroom. They also must be members of First Baptist Church Ocean Springs.

Assistants: Assistants are key in helping each class run smoothly. Assistants are needed to help the teacher with the lessons, crowd control, snacks, etc.

Donation Help: Watch the bulletin for things VBS needs this year. There is always a need for craft supplies, snacks, and decorations.

Missions Leader: The missions leader would prepare a 25 minute presentation of missionaries around the world. All the students, except preschool would be present at the same time.

Music helpers: Music assistants are needed to help the music leaders in teaching the students the VBS songs. Each age group will perform one song on Family Night.

Recreation Leaders: These leaders help prepare and set up games and activities for the students. Recreation and refreshment are combined, so organization is key to making this rotation run smoothly.

Snack Leaders: Leaders prepare snacks and drinks for the kids during their recreation time.

Craft Leaders: Craft leaders are in charge of instructing the students in making crafts each day. There is only one craft per day and each craft reflects the theme of VBS. Grades 1-5 rotate through Crafts. Preschool crafts are done in their room.

Craft preparation: Willing hands are needed to cut out and prepare craft materials prior to the week of VBS. This is especially needed in the preschool department.

Decorations: The week before VBS, we will be decorating. We will need things drawn, cut out, painted, and hung up all over the church.

Artists Needed!: If you can paint, we will need your help this year. We will be needing several murals and drawings of New York scenes.

Teacher Break Room: One to two people are needed each day to monitor the break room. Giving our teachers a moment to relax is very important. Break room workers need to make sure there are plenty of drinks, snacks, ice, etc.

Security: Keeping children safe is essential. We need people who would be willing to monitor the hallways and exit doors to make sure kids remain where they need to be and safe.

Registration: Registration is always a little chaotic, but workers are appreciated. Registration workers will need to meet before the first day of VBS to discuss procedure and policy.

Nursery Workers: VBS classes are for children age four to fifth grade. However, nursery workers are needed for children whose parents are working in VBS.

As you can see there are several ways you can be involved in VBS. It is an amazing way to show younger generations how the body of Christ works together to bring others to Him. Please be praying about how you can help this year.

VBS Policy

A few notes about policy this year:

1. Students will be assigned to the grade they were in the last year at school. Due to the large number of children expected this year, please be understanding of this.

2. We do not have the staff available to deal with constant discipline problems. If your child becomes persistently disruptive, we will need to call you to come and pick him or her up. Your child is welcome back the next day.

We appreciate your support and understanding, and we are looking forward to a successful VBS this year!

Sincerely,
Barbara Lee
VBS Director
